John Sickels has listed his Top Twenty Pirate Prospects; not a one is rated as an elite player. In fact, the top pair haven't even played an inning of pro ball yet.
His take: "Overall, the system could use more hitting but I like what they are doing on the pitching side."

I'd give our farm system a B-minus at the moment. Better than what it was to be sure, but still a long way to go. Really, we need at least another two more consecutive years of aggressive, overslot drafting to have a really good minor league system. We do have some hope with pitching, though still not enough, but we've had a horrible run of serious injuries to our hitting prospects. Sanchez, Marte, and many others have all been significantly debilitated after getting hurt.
