Man, that two hole is gaping, and it's still probably a couple of weeks until Alex Presley gets back.
- Ross Ohlendorf and Ryan Doumit could both be back with the team before the end of the Pirates' current seven-game homestand.
- The Pirates, with the addition of Carlos Lee and Ryan Ludwick, have now used 47 different players. The record is 51, set last year.
- The Pirates picked a bad time to go cold. The Brewers have won seven in a row while Pittsburgh has gone 1-6.
- The teams are now putting players on "revocable" waivers to set up a second wave of matchmaking. If a player is placed on revocable waivers and gets claimed, his team can let him go to the team that claims him as a straight salary dump, work out a trade with that team, or simply remove him from the waiver list. It's how a lot of deals get jump started after the deadline has passed.
