Bucs Rained Out; Matchups For the Next Two Games & Notes

Odd - the National Anthem was sung, but no players were around and the mound/batter's box tarps were still on the field. It's pretty dark here lookin' out the window, and yep...there goes the infield tarp. Almost forget that the Three Rivers Arts Festival and its endless hours of rain had begun. Anyway, a 7:30 rainstorm came and the PNC folk kept an eyed peeled on the radar. Finally, at about 8:40, they gave up the ghost.

Little gloomy at the outset (photo Pittsburgh Pirates)
Hey, at least they didn't get a coupla of innings in and burn the starters - Jon Niese and Steven Matz will go at tomorrow night. Frankie Liriano and Jacob deGrom are slated for Wednesday. Surprise - Juan Nicasio looks like he's getting skipped (although it could just as well been Francisco) No makeup date has been decided on yet. While the Bucco schedule is getting backloaded because of bad weather, at least this rain out should allow for all hands to be on deck tomorrow.

  • Gregory Polanco is first in the NL in doubles (18), third in runs scored (39), seventh in runs batted in (38), and eighth in total bases (110).  El Coffee is slashing .309/.391/.556, is tied with Cutch for the lead in HR with nine and leads the club in walks with 29.
  • We bemoan RISP a lot, but Josh is picking up the slack - he's hitting .344 in those situations, and his 21 hits w/RISP are second in the NL.
  • How do u kill time during a rain delay? Sell some brewskis to the folks that are left and put the hockey game on the Jumbotron.
  • Elias noted that Steven Matz would join Jerry Koosman (1968) & Tom Glavine (2004) as the only Mets pitchers to win their first five road games of a season if he gets a victory tomorrow.
