Thursday: Juan Nicasio v Bartolo Colon, Lineup, Notes

Tonight: The finale will begin at 7:10 and be on Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan. It's the rubber match.

Pitchers: Juan Nicasio (5-5. 5.34) takes on Bartolo Colon (5-3, 3.08). Juan was hammered in relief against the Cards and pushed back a couple of days. His last start was against the Mets, and he tossed five strong frames, giving up a run on three hits by leaning heavily on his fastball. We'll see if the ol' number one will work its magic again tonight; it sure did for JT a couple of days ago. Big Sexy hasn't tossed against the Bucs this year, but is on a roll of four starts with just five earned runs surrendered over 25 IP. He did take on the Pirates once in 2015, going seven frames and giving up just a run on five hits with seven whiffs. Colon is 4-2 with a 1.88 ERA ( his lowest against any opponent) in eight career starts against the Bucs.

Lineup: Josh Harrison 2B, Gregory Polanco RF, Cutch CF, Jung Ho Kang 3B, David Freese 1B, Matt Joyce LF, Jordy SS, Erik Kratz C, Nicasio P. Starling gets a day off after taking a bad hop to the puss yesterday, and Stew is still resting his bruises. Nor sure why JJ is out after going 3-for-4 against Thor; as a platoon guy, we're assuming it's not a rest day, but a hunch by Clint that Freeser has the hot hand..

  • Starling Marte caught a bounce just below the eye yesterday, resulting in a swollen cheek. He's sitting out today.
  • Neil Walker and Michael Conforto return to the Mets lineup tonight; the NY club has been playing shorthanded, too.
  • The Mets 19 hits last night were a season high, and they broke a three came losing streak. The Pirates have dropped 6-of-7.
