Notes: FA's; Minor League Roundup; News

And...
  • As expected, OHP Frankie Liriano (5-3/3.47), OF Melky Cabrera (.280 BA, 88 OPS+) and 3B/OF Lonnie Chisenhall (IL) have all reportedly declared for free agency. In another space-clearing move, RHP Parker Markel was sold to the Angels.

  • Indy RHP's Cody Ponce (USA) and Eduardo Vera (Mexico) tossed in the Premier 12 Tournament, the Olympic qualifier for the America's being played in Mexico. Ponce tossed five two-hit, goose egg innings with a walk and five strikeouts against the Netherlands to take the win, 9-0. Vera went four frames against the Dominican, giving up a run on four hits in a 6-1 victory.
  • RHP Quinn Priester was named to Baseball America's All-GCL team (behind a paywall). Quinn, 19, went 1-1/3.19 for the GCL Pirates and West Virginia, averaging 10 K per nine innings. He was the Bucs first round pick (#18 overall) in 2019.
  • Reverse love: MLB.com picked out the Top 25 AFL players; they liked Oneil Cruz, despite his .190 BA, and Jared Oliva, who hit .312 w/.436 OBP.
  • RHP Jordan Lyles, 29, declared for free agency from Milwaukee. He went 7-1/2.45 for the Brew Crew after Pittsburgh dumped him, with an overall slash of 12-8/4.15.
  • RHP Ivan Nova, 32, declared for free agency; he slashed 11-12/4.72 for the White Sox last campaign, and equalled his Bucco personal high with 187 IP.
  • LHP Tony Watson has exercised his $2.5M guaranteed player option for 2020 with San Francisco, with an additional $7.5M available in incentives.
  • The Mariners didn't exercise LHP Wade LeBlanc's option, making him a free agent. LeBlanc, 35, posted a 6-7/5.71 line last season.

  • Clutch Bucs: 2019 WS - Daniel Hudson closed it out for the Nats, striking out two-of-three in the ninth. 2018 WS - Steve Pearce won the MVP with the BoSox with three homers, including a pair in the deciding game. 2017 WS - Charlie Morton got the final win after a four-inning stint for Houston, giving up a run on two hits to finish up the seventh game.
  • Speaking of locals doing good, Slippery Rock's Matt Adams became the third former SRU player to win a World Series ring, and the first since Bob Shawkey pitched for the Yankees in 1926. Then the Nats refused to exercise their option on his contract; fame is indeed fleeting.
  • The Pirates posted that Vera Clemente is in "delicate" health and has been hospitalized; prayers up for her.
  • The Mets announced that Carlos Beltran will be their new manager. So far, no one from the Pirates wish list has been claimed yet.
