Final Road Notes, Moves & News

Last road trip...

Notes:

  • Pittsburgh has reinstated RHP David Bednar (oblique) from the 10-day IL and optioned RHP Kyle Keller to Indy. Michael Chavis (elbow), who's been rehabbing at Indy, is hoped be ready to return during the upcoming season-ending, six-game homestand.
  • The Pirates placed Rule 5 RHP Luis Oviedo (shoulder strain) on the IL and recalled RHP Kyle Keller.
  • Road wimps? The Bucs have lost nine of the last 11 games they've played in Philadelphia; they've lost 14 of the past 15 in Cincinnati. Pittsburgh finished 24-57 on the road.
  • Taylor Davis became the 61st Pirate to appear this year, extending a franchise record for the most bodies used in a campaign. It was a good debut, as he had two hits v Philly.
  • We all know the Bucs haven't swept anyone this year, but did you know that they've been swept 16 times?

  • If you're wondering who the slowest Buc is, per Statcast it's Colin Moran (24/feet per second). He's just a nose behind the Cheetah, Jake Stallings, who covers 24.1 feet per second, proving it is a game of inches. There are no Pirates among MLB's 50 fastest; Bryan Reynolds clocks in at #58.
  • There’s only been seven seasons of 40 or more home runs by a player in Pirates history, and they all belong to two guys. Ralph Kiner has five campaigns with 40> home runs or more as a Bucco - he also has the only two 50 HR years for Pgh, w/a team record of 54 in 1949 - while Willie Stargell has the other two, with the most recent Pittsburgh 40+ homer campaign belonging to Pops in 1973.
  • Rodolfo Castro was named the AAA East Player of the Week after his callup to Indy.  He started in four games and hit .471 (8-for-17) with two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI.
  • The Greensboro Hoppers and Bowling Green Hot Rods are tied at two games apiece in their championship series with the title match on Tuesday night.
  • The Milwaukee Brewers clinched the NL Central on Sunday by defeating the NY Mets, 8-4.
  • The Phils DFA'ed former Bucco pinch hitter deluxe Matt Joyce.
  • RHP Michael Feliz was DFA'ed by the Oakland A's. It's the fourth team that's let him go this season.
