Winding down...
Notes:
- LHP Steven Brault (recurring lat strain) was moved to 60-day IL, and the Pirates claimed RHP Enyel De Los Santos, 25, off waivers from the Phils, where the reliever's line was 1-1/6.75 in 26 outings with 42 K in 28 IP. He was called up to the big team the next day when closer David Bednar went on the 10-day IL with a right oblique strain.
- UT Michael Chavis (right elbow) began a rehab assignment at Indy and will start out as a DH before getting game time. Kevin Gorman of the Trib has the rundown on the IL as the season nears its end.
- And yep, the Pirates blew their 14th chance to sweep a series on Thursday, losing 1-0 to the Reds. They're the only MLB team without a series sweep this year. The last time Pittsburgh didn't sweep a series during the season was in 1890, when they were the Alleghenys.
- RHP Connor Overton became the 59th different player to appear in at least one game for the Pirates in 2021, a club record for most players used in one season. He set a spiffier mark in his 60th appearance when Overton’s 10-2/3 scoreless frames of work between the Pirates and Blue Jays became the most innings a pitcher has ever pitched in MLB history without allowing a run to start a career, per Joe Block.

- Dillon Peters won his first game as a Pirate despite five starts with a 2.66 ERA, and the bullpen almost let this victory slip away after Peters left with a 6-0 lead and sweated out a 6-5 win v the Reds.
- C Jacob Stallings is the Pirates' Roberto Clemente Award nominee. RHP Big Joe Musgrove was the Padres' choice.
- AA Altoona's season will end after one more series next week, and the Curve will not make the playoffs. Neither will Indy, but their season runs concurrent with MLB, so some AA guys could make the move to AAA for a quick look. Hi A Greensboro and Lo A Bradenton are playoff bound, and those start September 21st.
- The updated BA Top 100 Prospect rankings include five Buc babes: SS Oneil Cruz (14), C Henry Davis (44), RHP Quinn Priester (50), 2B Nick Gonzales (65) and SS Liover Peguero (78).
- Bradenton C Endy RodrÃguez was named the Lo-A Player of the Week after hitting .387 with two HR/nine RBI. He's been on a tear, hitting safely in 16 of his last 18 games and batting .380 with nine doubles, a triple, four homers and 22 RBI over that span.
- RHP Michael Feliz was DFA'ed this season by his third team, the Boston Red Sox, who followed suit after the Reds and Bucs.
