Stretch Run...
Notes:
- The Pirates brought up recently claimed (from Toronto) RHP Connor Overton from Indy and placed LHP Steven Brault on the 10-day IL with a left lat strain, the same injury he's had since spring camp.
- RHP David Bednar hasn't pitched since September 7th because of right side discomfort. The severity of the injury wasn't disclosed.
- RHP Kyle Keller got his first MLB win Saturday night against the Nats.
- C Jacob Stallings leads all MLB position players with 21 defensive runs saved per Fangraphs.
- And for the 13th straight time, the Pirates failed to convert a sweep by losing the finale, this time against the Nats; they're the only MLB team that hasn't broomed someone.

- The Pirates 9/11 ceremony was impressive - the team (and the Nats) commiserated one-on-one with 100+ family survivors of the Shanksville event, who were lined around the infield, and then 200 local first responders unfurled a flag that virtually covered the entire outfield. US Army Colonel Christopher Whelan threw out the first pitch while Allegheny County sheriff Richard Manning sang the national anthem. And, of course, fireworks after the game.
- After missing three months with a forearm issue, RHP Yerry De Los Santos has returned to Altoona's bullpen where he will try to make a case to be protected in the upcoming Rule 5 draft.
- The Lo-A Bradenton Marauders clinched their fifth straight playoff appearance Saturday night with an 8-1 win over the Clearwater Threshers (Phil's affiliate).

Odd to see these sorts of lat injuries occurring with pitchers. I think Brault could still be a useful piece if he can stay on the field. Bednar has terminator potential as a closer if he, too, is not shut down long term with the injury to his side.
