Notes

Paul Maholm faces Mike Pelfry this afternoon; the first pitch is at 1:10 PM. Root Sports will air the game.

-- The lineup: Xavier Paul LF, Josh Harrison 3B, Andrew McCutchen CF, Neil Walker 2B, Lyle Overbay 1B, Matt Diaz LF, Ronny Cedeno SS, Dusty Brown C, Paul Maholm P.

JT gets a day off; Clint Hurdle is putting the X-Man in right and Matt Diaz in left in a sorta role reversal. Josh Harrison gets his third straight start at the hot corner; he's 3-for-8 in his first two games. Dusty Brown catches the get-away day game.

- Kevin Correia is first Pirate since Vern Law to lead the MLB in wins on June 1st or later. Law had 19 wins on 9/12/60; it'd sure be nice to see Correia still on top come September.

-- Ya think the Bucs just chow down pizza and suds after a game? Gretchen McKay of the Post Gazette has some eye-opening haute cusine news for you.

-- Elizabeth Forward took home the WPIAL AAA title yesterday with a 7-1 victory over Hampton at Consol Energy Park. It was the warriors' first title since 1976, and they won it in style, going 21-0 and becoming the fourth team to win a WPIAL title with an undefeated record since 1979.

-- The AA title tilt was easily the most competitive and well pitched HS championship bout of the season. Riverside defeated Waynesburg 2-1 on a walk-off, two out RBI single by Nick Pollio, Riverside's pitcher, in the seventh frame. He and WB's Joey Monica traded six-hitters.
