Pre Game, Lineup, Notes, Vinsanity Clears Waivers

We've got a rematch of last week's marathon starters tonight when Charlie Morton faces Edwin Jackson once again. Morton is 2-4 with a 4.36 ERA in 10 career starts against the Cubs. Jackson has been strong against the Bucs. In 11 starts, he's 6-2 with a 3.06 ERA

The lineup: Starling Marte LF, Travis Snider RF, Cutch CF, Pedro 3B, Russ Martin C, Neil Walker 2B, Travis Ishikawa 1B, Jordy Mercer SS and Morton P. Same old cookie-cutter from Clint.

  • The game starts at 8:05 and will be aired by Root Sports, WGN and 93.7 The Fan.
  • Cutch has .488 OBP at Wrigley, his best at any park. And in case the memory has worn away, Emilio Bonifacio was 11-of-16 against the Bucs at PNC Park to open the season.
  • In kind of an oddity, every Pirate pitcher except the two guys at the back end of the bullpen - Jason Grill and Mark the Shark - have a K.
  • Beginning tonight the Pirates are scheduled to play 20 games in the next 20 days. The next open date is April 29th.
  • Jeff Locke (right side strain) is scheduled to make a rehab start with the Bradenton Marauders on Wednesday.
  • In a bit of a surprise, Vin Mazzaro has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Indy. Mazzaro has three days to accept or reject the assignment.
  • Ex Bucs: Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal has a few sentences about Evan Meek in his column, who called old skipper John Russell to get a try-out with Baltimore. The retired Brandon Inge threw out the first pitch of the Lynchburg Little League season.
