Pitching: Jeff Locke (8-11, 4.49) goes against Tim Melville. Locke and his simplified motion had a decidedly meh spring, but he was awarded the four spot a week before camp broke; this will be his first 2016 outing. Last year, Jeff had a slate of 1-2/4.29 in four starts against the Reds, but he's been tough at GABP with a 2-1/1.84 lifetime slash there.

Melville will make his big league debut against the Pirates. The 26 year old was 7-10 with a 4.63 ERA in 27 AAA starts last year. We'll see how he goes; the Pirates (and most teams, we'd guess) traditionally have trouble with new guys the first time around the order. Anthony DeSclafani was slated to go, but he tweaked an oblique in camp and was passed over; we're assuming the weather was a consideration as Sclafari tossed a sim game to line him up for today's start.
Lineup: John Jaso 1B, Cutch CF, David Freese, Starling Marte LF, Gregory Polanco RF, Josh harrison 2B, Jordy mercer SS, Stew C, Locke P. Stew gives Fran a blow, earning his first start of the season.
- After yesterday's match, Josh Harrison got to throw out the first pitch of the University of Cincinnati baseball game. J-Hay is a Queen City native and Bearcat alum.
- Sean Burnett, who opted out of his Nat's deal, signed a minor-league contract with the LA Dodgers with a May 1st opt-out date.
