Saturday: Gerrit Cole v Brandon McCarthy, Lineup, Notes

Today: The game's opening pitch is slated for 4:05 and will be carried by Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan.

Pitchers: Gerrit Cole (7-7, 2.94) takes on Brandon McCarthy (2-2, 3.00). In his last dozen starts, Cole Train has surrendered more than three runs just twice and limited the damage to four runs in that outlier pair of outings. The Bucs, though, have only scored more than three runs five times during that span. So we'll see if the Pirates can work out a balance behind Gerrit. he's won both his starts in Dodger Stadium, tho with a 4.50 ERA. McCarthy has been solid but doesn't last very long. In his seven starts this season, he's cracked the five inning mark just twice and in his last three outings has gone just 10-2/3 IP while being tapped for seven runs. He's been hog wild (10 walks in his past 6-2/3 frames) as his fastball command is pretty non-existent of late.

Lineup: Adam Frazier 2B, Starling Marte LF, Cutch CF, Gregory Polanco RF, Jung Ho Kang 3B, John Jaso 1B, Fran Cervelli C, Jordy SS, Cole Train P. The guys with aches (Fran & JJ) are back while Josh and Freeser, two of the hotter bats lately, grab a seat.

  • Gerrit Cole has not allowed a homer in his last 50-2/3 IP, the second-longest active streak in MLB.
