Pitchers: Ivan Nova (12-6, 4.03; Pirates/5-0, 2.41) v Dan Straily (12-8, 3.81). Super Nova has gone 36 IP in his last five starts, giving up seven runs on 25 hits w/three walks while getting the game into the seventh three times and tossing CGs in the other pair. Last time out against the Reds, he went the distance and held them to a run on six hits. Straily has won eight of his past 10 decisions and been tough on the Bucs (1-2, 3.12), but he lost his recent outing against Nova 4-1 and hasn't gotten much support from the bats. Hopefully, with Ivan on the bump, that trend should continue.

Lineup: Adam Frazier LF, Josh Bell 1B, Cutch CF, Gregory Polanco RF, Jung Ho Kang 3B, Fran Cervelli C, S-Rod SS, Pedro Florimon 2B, Nova. P-Flo instead of Alen Hanson? Hmmmm... Jordy has been in a team-leading 141 games; with tomorrow off, he gets a two-day blow.
- The rotation against the Brewers is still up in the air. The inning monitors must be arm-wrestling with the old-schoolboys.
- The Bucs have won four in a row and 5-of-6. They're 74-74 on the year and 10-8 against the Reds, so they've clinched the season series. The club is still on life support for a wildcard, five games behind the Giants and Mets in the loss column with 14 games left in the season.
- Juan Nicasio has struck out at least one batter in 29 straight games, a club record and the MLB's longest streak of the season. What a diff the role makes: Juan was 5-5, 5.05 as a starter w/9 K per nine innings, and 5-1, 3.86 w/12 whiffs per game as a reliever.
- @pirateprospects reported the revamped Fall League roster for the Pirates: Austin Meadows, Trevor Williams and Dovydas Neverauskas were removed from the list and replaced by P's Alex McRae & Tanner Anderson, along with 3B Connor Joe. They'll join 3B Eric Wood, P Montana Durapau, C Jin-De Jhang and P Edgar Santana on the Surprise Saguaros. Kinda awkward finding PT for two hot corner guys, but...
