Pitchers: Steven Brault (0-2, 3.38) will share the bump with Jake Thompson (1-5, 6.06). Steven's last couple of outings have been solid and he may be settling in after a slow start. He doesn't get very deep into games, walking 12 in 24 IP and getting into some deep counts, so the next step in his development is to become more efficient. Jake, 22, was a Top #75 prospect when the Phils called him up in August. After taking a licking early on, he's finding his way and strung together three good starts, with two coming against the Nats. Thompson is a pitch-to-contact guy with a four pitch mix, but the jury is still out on exactly whether he'll become a one-two arm or more of a mid-rotation guy.

Lineup: Adam Frazier LF, Josh Bell 1B, Cutch CF, Gregory Polanco RF, David Freese 3B, S-Rod 2B, Jordy SS, Eric Fryer C, Brault P. Starling is still out and Hansen is still glued to the bench while Fraze, S-Rod and even P-Flo get time at second with Josh done for the year.
- If you're keeping count: Clint has gotten the tossed 51 times in his career and six times this season.
- The 2017 schedule was released today. Pittsburgh's interleague foes this year are from the AL East along with the Pirates "rivalry" team, the Tigers, making for a sweet but challenging slate.
- Andrew has a piece in today's Player's Journal addressing the income gap in developing a ballplayer in this day and age of AAU teams and traveling squads. He tells of its affect on his career coming up from the youth leagues and how it's stepping on the chances of young, low-income talent.
