Pitchers: RHP Jordan Lyles (5-6.4.91) gets the third game matchup with RHP Adam Wainwright (6-7/4.50). Jordan broke out of a long slump with a strong outing against Philly; hopefully he's got his mechanics straight again. He took on the Cards in May when he was on a roll and tossed six innings of one-run, one-hit ball to take home a 2-1 victory. Wainwright has been around 14 years and still twirling; he's spun against the Pirates 39 times in his career (13-7/4.34). In his 18 starts this year, he's allowed two or fewer earned runs nine times. Against the Bucs this campaign, he was chased in April, giving up four runs in four innings, and a month later, he tossed a one-run, five-hit gem over seven innings with eight K, so he's still got some good days left on the bump.

Notes:
  • Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports tweeted that "According to sources, Pirates reliever Keone Kela was suspended by the club due to an altercation with Hector Morales, team’s director, cultural readiness and peak performance coach." The Pirates won't comment but other media members have confirmed the tale. As for KK, he says it's all a mystery to him as he told Alan Saunders and the rest of the beat guys
  • The Bucs have lost 9-of-11, with the final three being by one run.
