Lineup: Kevin Newman SS, Bryan Reynolds RF, Starling Marte CF, J-Bell 1B, Jung Ho Kang 3B, Corey Dickerson LF, Eli Diaz C, Adam Frazier 2B, Joe Musgrove P. Quintana's splits are fairly even, hence the see-saw order. Of course, it does take Clintonian logic to sit Joey O (.308 v LHP) for JHK (.190).
Looking to avoid the sweep - photo Pittsburgh Pirates |
Pitchers: RHP Trevor Williams (3-2/4.54) closes it out against LHP Jose Quintana (6-7/4.19).Willy was rolling before he got hurt; in the three games since, he's slashed 1-1/8.31. That win was against the Cubs, but he gave up five runs in 5-1/3 IP; the Pirates lent him big support in an 18-5 victory. Hopefully, becoming a daddy again will pump him up today. Q has been fairly consistent (his ERA is bloated by two terrible outings out of 18) and had his way with the Bucs, winning 2-0 and 11-3 this year. In 14 innings, he's given up three runs on 10 hits with 17 K.
Notes:
- RHP Keone Kela started a rehab stint at Indy last night; he was placed on IL on May 4th, had an aborted rehab that started 5/31, and is now entering round two.
- If it weren't for bad luck: SS Erik Gonzalez has been ended his rehab assignment due to a left hamstring strain suffered after recovering from a left clavicle fracture.
- The "steal first base" rule had its first winner last night. The MLB is experimenting with the rule in the indie Atlantic League that allows a batter to try to get to first, at the risk of being thrown out, on a wild pitch/passed ball.
