Morton v Jackson, Lineup, El Coffee, More...

Charlie Morton (4-7, 3.09) opens against Edwin Jackson (4-7, 5.11) at Wrigley tomorrow. Morton has seen the light and been a pretty dependable pitcher during his last eight outings with a sparkling 2.34 ERA. We've seen this particular match up plenty of times. Charlie is 3-4 with a 4.32 ERA in 12 career starts against the Cubbies, but has gone 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in three starts against Edwin Jackson this season

Edwin Jackson has a 6.19 ERA along with a 1.75 WHIP and .300 opponents' BA in his three outings against the Bucs this season, and Pittsburgh has won every start he's made against them in 2014. So let the good times roll.

The lineup: Gregory Polanco RF, Starling Marte LF, Cutch CF, Ike Davis 1B, Russ Martin C, Josh Harrison 2B, Pedro 3B, Jordy Mercer SS and Morton P.  Pedro sits in the seven hole again.

The game starts at 4:05 and will be aired by Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan.
  • Gregory Polanco's 17 hits through his first nine games are the most for any Pirate player since 1914, nudging ahead of Jack Merson’s 16 in 1951. He's also the first NL'er to begin his big league days with a nine-game hitting streak since Juan Pierre produced a 16-game hitting streak to begin his MLB career with the Colorado in 2000.
  • Pittsburgh sputters against the rest of the NL Central, but has gone 7-3 this year against Chicago and has won each of the last four series between the clubs.
  • Mathew Kory of Sports on Earth has every teams' all-time toughest mound opponents, and selected three guys the Bucs have never been able to handle, spanning three eras including the current one.
