Volquez v Simon, Lineup, Cutch, El Coffee, Attendance

Tonight's match features Alfredo Simon (9-3, 2.95 ERA) vs. Edinson Volquez (4-5, 3.89 ERA).

Volquez seems to have righted his ship, and tossed seven goose eggs in his last outing. He's 1-1 with a 3.55 ERA) in four career starts against his former team.

The right-handed Simon has won his last three starts after spending the last two years working from the pen. He's pitched well against the Bucs, going into tonight 1-2 with a 2.57 career ERA against Pittsburgh in 15 appearances (just one start) that covered 18 IP.

The lineup: Gregory Polanco RF, Starling Marte LF, Cutch CF, Ike Davis 1B, Russ Martin C, Josh Harrison 2B, Pedro 3B, Jordy Mercer SS and Volquez P.

The game is on Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan, beginning at 7:05. It shouldn't be a washout, but scattered storms are called for tonight.
  • Cutch has a 12 game hitting streak; his career best is 13 games, from 2009.
  • According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only Pittsburgh player since 1900 to begin his big league career with an eight-game hitting streak was IF Spencer Adams in 1923. Gregory Polanco enters tonight’s action with a seven-game hitting streak. Polanco is the first rookie to hit that mark since Roberto Clemente hit safely in seven consecutive games to begin his career in 1955.
  • Packin' 'em in: Playing in their 38th home date of the season tonight, the Pirates are 24,974 fans shy of topping the 1,000,000 mark in attendance. Last year the Bucs eclipsed the million mark in home date #42 on July 2nd. The club record for reaching one million fans came in the 33rd home date during the 2001 season on June 24th.
  • Ex-Bucs: LHP Daniel Moskos had TJ surgery yesterday.
