The 26-year-old Worley will be making his second start of the season. His first one was a goodie against Henderson Alvarez in Miami that afternoon; tossed 7.0 scoreless innings and whiffed five batters in a no decision. Vanimal could use another strong outing in his bid to crack the rotation; Frankie is still a bit away, but Gerrit Cole's return is around the corner.
Wood is a guy that works up in the zone, and the key is not to crank out flies but to get on top of the ball and bang some bullets. Of course, if the wind is going out at Wrigley... The lefty is 5-5 with a 3.25 ERA against the Bucs, so he's been quite solid against Pittsburgh in his career.
The lineup: Gregory Polanco RF, Josh Harrison 3B, Cutch CF, Russ Martin C, Jose Tabata LF, Gaby Sanchez 1B, Jordy Mercer SS, Clint Barmes 2b and Worley. Mixed up lineup tonight, partially because of a lefty starter and partially Clint Hurdle voodoo with Starling Marte, who is maybe getting a little too chase happy again.. EDIT: The Pirates announced that Starling Marte will be away from the team for two days attending to a personal matter in the DR. He's expected back on Monday.
The game starts at 7:15 and will be aired by Fox Sports and 93.7 The Fan.
- Root Sports looked a little different last night. As Rob Biertempfel of the Trib reported, "Kent Tekulve, the Pirates' closer for their 1979 World Series championship, will miss the rest of this baseball season as Root Sports' in-studio commentator for 'personal' reasons, he said Friday night. He said Root has told him the job will be his again once he returns, and he expects to do so. Ken Macha, the former major league player and manager out of Monroeville, will fill in for Tekulve. '
