Jamo v Derek Holland, Lineup & Notes - Starling (10-day) & Gonzo (60-day) on IL, Tucker & Reynolds Up & Starting

Game: It's a 4:05 opening pitch at PNC Park. The game is on Fox Sports 1 and 93.7 The Fan. More possible wet weather forecast for early evening; we'll see if the April gods are kind again. Let's hope so; with all the personnel moves, today will be a great look at the future.

Lineup: Cole Tucker SS, Jung Ho Kang 3B, Fran Cervelli C, Josh Bell 1B, Bryan Reynolds CF, JB Shuck RF, Pablo Reyes 2B, Jason Martin LF, Jameson Taillon P. Looks kinda like a Florida camp road lineup; five of the eight position players were at Indy last year. Cervy looks like he's never getting a day off and we're also a little surprised Melky is sitting.

It's Jamo and the Kiddie Corps today (image/Pittsburgh Pirates)

Pitchers: RHP Jameson Taillon (0-2/3.43) gets the start against LHP Derek Holland (1-2/4.09). Jamo is looking for his first win and trailing his rotation buddies in performance, but we have a suspicion that may right itself when the final stats are in. JT worked three innings in his lone start against the Giants last year, giving up a hit and fanning five; he left with a cut finger. Holland beat the Bucs in both of his starts last year without overwhelming them, going 12-2/3 IP and giving up five runs (four earned) on 14 hits with six walks and 12 whiffs.

Notes:
  • The Pirates called up SS Cole Tucker and OF Bryan Reynolds from Indy; both are starting today. Tim Williams of Pirates Prospects has the book on both. As for the two crash test dummies, Starling Marte was placed on the 10-day IL with an abdominal wall contusion and Erik Gonzalez on the 60-day IL with a left clavicle fracture. The entire starting outfield (and fourth man) are now on the IL.
  • Elias Diaz is back and in Pittsburgh while K-Man took infield, though neither has been officially added to the roster yet.
  • The Pirates are taking a four-game winning streak into today's match.
  • Fraze wasn't rested against a lefty last night, but apparently suffered from pregame back spasms. The Bucs are so banged up that Colin Moran was taking grounders at second along w/Pablo. The guys taking balls at short were Kevin Newman & Cole Tucker.
  • Jerry DiPaola of the Trib has a quick piece on Nick Burdi, including why he chose the Ricky Vaughan/Vanimal look.
  • Matt Snyder of CBS Sports spills a little love on the Pirates, particularly the rotation.
  • Lonnie Chisenhall will need a bagful of gloves at Indy; he's expected to see time in all four corner infield/outfield spots during his rehab.
