Willy v Pat Corbin, Lineup & Notes

Game: It's a 7:05 start at Nationals Park as the Bucs meet Washington. The game will be on MLB Network (Pittsburgh only; AT&T SportsNet will show the Pens) It's raining in Pittsburgh; the wet weather is supposed to roll into DC sometime after eight o'clock, so...

Lineup: Adam Frazier 2B, Starling Marte CF, Jung Ho Kang 3B, Josh Bell 1B, Pablo Reyes LF, JB Shuck RF, Jake Stallings C, Erik Gonzalez SS, Trevor Williams P. Well...Clint has a pretty good bench tonight.

Pitchers: RHP Trevor Williams (1-0/2.25) meets LHP Pat Corbin (0-0/3.75). Willy keeps grinding out solid six-inning starts; he was 1-1/2.53 against the DC nine in 2018. Corbin had no decisions against Pittsburgh in two starts last year with a 3.65 ERA. The old D-Back cranked out a pair of quality outings this year, both against the Mets, and averages nearly 10 K per nine innings.

Notes:
  • Gregory's rehab is picking up steam. He's being moved to AAA Indy tomorrow, as is Dovy Neverauskas.
  • Kevin Newman ended up on the IL because a pitching machine he was setting up fell and cut his finger. It's not a serious laceration, but medicos recommended he not use the hand for 48-72 hours, and the Pirates didn't want to be short-handed on the bench that long.
  • The Pirates 11 unearned runs are second in MLB (six came in one inning, but still...) They're tucked between the Mariners (14!) and the Cubs & Mets with 10 gift tallies.

Looks like Polanco will be back sooner than expected. I just hope he hasn't come back too quickly. That was a serious shoulder injury and those are often harder to come back from than elbow maladies.

He's got until April 27th for his rehab, Will. My guess is the team will use most if not all of time. The Pirate MO is to push day-to-day stuff, but usually they don't rush guys off the IL. But we'll see - he's not ready yet for sure, but some steady work may loosen him up.
