Bucs Blow Out Redlegs 14-0

Trevor Williams and Alex Wood exchanged quiet opening frames. The Reds put up a whiff, single and DP in the second, while the Bucs went down 1-2-3 despite a well-stroked ball from Joey O. For Cincy, a walk was erased on another DP in the third; then Wood singled before it ended. The Bucs got a Jake single and K-Man walk; B-Rey doubled home Stalls and Kevin came around when the relay got through 1B Derek Dietrich. There was no noise from either club in the fourth and fifth frames. Wood singled in the sixth; he's banged two of Cincy's three hits, but no problems for Willy otherwise. Newman and Reynolds started it off with walks, and a force left Bucs on the corners. J-Bell was bopped to cram the sacks and Lucas Sims took the ball. Joey O's infield knock plated a run. Redbeard hit for Pablo. Good move; he dug out a two-strike curve and dropped it into the Clemente Wall seats. Sims fanned the last pair to stop the bleeding.

Ric Rod took the seventh. He was tagged for three raps, but a well-timed DP in the middle led to another zero. Kevin Gausman climbed the mound. B-Rey singled with two outs and Starling got plunked - funny how that happens in Reds games - but the Bucs had a better answer than a wrasslin' match; J-Bell poked one the oppo way, over the left field wall and into the crowd. Kyle Crick struck out the side with a walk in between the whiffs. Joel Kuhnel was waved in. With one gone, Jake walked and E-Z singled; Fraze's rap then chased home a run. RJ Alaniz was brought on and gave up an RBI knock to K-Man. An out later, Starling swatted a two-bagger for two more tallies before the partay ended. Parker Markel answered the ninth inning call. He was tagged with a double and walk with one away (and that was a glovely play by Gonzalez) before he whiffed his way home. Raise the Roger.

Now that's more like it.

Notes:
  • The Pirates had 10 hits, but B-Rey was the only guy with a pair (and a walk). K-Man reached three times with a knock and two walks, plating three times. Pablo was the only position player who was on the field without a knock. Redbeard's granny and J-Bell's three-run shot sho' made it seem like a 20-hit night.
  • Josh Bell became the first Bucco with a 30 HR/100 RBI season (32/102) since Pedro Alvarez in 2013 (36/100).
  • Pirates pinch hitters lead the majors with 43 RBI; Colin's granny was the Bucs 10th pinch hit homer, tying a club record.
  • There were 26,776 announced in the house tonight.
  • Manny Sanguillen received his Hispanic Hall of Fame plaque tonight during pregame ceremonies.
