Willy v Alex Wood, Lineup & Notes - Cervy Signs w/Braves

Game: The game starts at 7:05. It's lightweight hoodie night, with a free gray Bucco top for the first 20,000 fans. There are also special Armed Forces Night tickets available for $20 - you get a corner box seat, tee shirt, and free doggie & water.

Lineup: Adam Newman 2B, Bryan Reynolds LF, Starling Marte CF, Josh Bell 1B, Jose Osuna 3B, Pablo Reyes RF, Jake Stallings C, Erik Gonzalez SS, Trevor Williams P. It's an all righty lineup although Wood hasn't shown much of a split so far this year.

Pitchers: RHP Trevor Williams (5-6/5.65) goes in the middle match against LHP Alex Wood (1-2/5.92). Willy has had a pretty terrible 10-game stretch, with a slash of 4-6/8.03 and 16 HR's yielded in 52-2/3 IP. He hasn't tackled the Reds since April, but is 1-0 in those two assignments, giving up three runs in 12 innings. Wood was out until the end of July with a balky back, and hasn't flashed his All-Star stuff yet; he's given up eight homers in 24-1/3 frames during his five starts this year. He has been good against the Bucs in his career. He hasn't faced them this campaign, but is 3-2/2.80 in nine career outings.

Notes:
  • The Pirates, per Joe Block, have won eight straight games at PNC Park against the Reds. He also noted that the Pirates are second in MLB in runs scored in the ninth (although we suspect not so much in innings 1-8).
  • Joey Votto is on the IL with a bum back; he's out for the series.
  • Cervy cleared waivers and the Braves signed him to a major league contract. He's going to catch tonight, and told Jason Mackey of the Post Gazette that he's ditching "That's Amore" as his walkup song, saying "That's only for Pittsburgh."
  • Jordan Lyles tossed six no-hit innings for the Brew Crew last night before being removed after 99 pitches. He's 3-1/2.67 in five starts since being traded to Milwaukee. Speaking of, the hangup between Jung Ho Kang signing with the Beer Boys is because of visa issues per Tom Haudricourt, Brewer beat man.
