Tuesday Night: Mitch Keller v Dinelson Lamet; El Coffee On IL; Hunter Owen Added

Today's Game: Starting time is 10:10 and the game will be carried on AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan

Lineup: Adam Frazier 2B; Bryan Reynolds CF; Phil Evans RF; Colin Moran 1B; Erik Gonzalez 3B; Jake Stallings C; Ka'ai Tom LF; Kevin Newman SS; Mitch Keller P. El Coffee is on the IL; Phil takes his spot and was inserted into the three-hole.

Pitchers: RHP Mitch Keller (1-3/8.20) v RHP Dinelson Lamet (0-0/0.00). Mitch has been up and down more often than a Himalayan Sherpa, but the Bucs are gonna let him sink or swim this year while he searches for control and consistency. Kell had one of his bad nights in April during his first look at San Diego, and was chased in the fourth after giving up nine runs (seven earned). The 24-year-old Lamet just came off the IL today after two weeks off due to forearm tightness, and only has two innings of work this season. He is 2-0/1.54 against the Pirates in two starts, but they were both 2017 outings, so it's been awhile.

Notes:

  • Gregory Polanco, who played yesterday, is on the IL; no reason was given by the Pirates (usually meaning it's Covid-related). UT Hunter Owen was called off the taxi squad to replace him.
  • That didn't take long - CF Brian Goodwin, who just opted out of his Bucco deal, has reportedly  signed with the White Sox, who have lost a couple of outfielders to injury.
  • The minor league season opens today. Indy (AAA) sends Chase DeJong to the bump, Altoona (AA): Roansy Contreras, Greensboro (Hi-A): Quinn Priester and Bradenton (Lo-A): Luis Ortiz.
  • Due to the state's relaxation of Covid limitations, the Pierogie race will return to the PNC Park OF (it's now a vid event run across the Clemente Bridge) when the Bucs come home from Chicago on May 10th.

Tomorrow's Game: JT Brubaker finishes the set against Yu Darvish. The getaway match starts at 8:10 and will be aired on AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan

It is unclear to me why Goodwin didn't get a look in Pittsburgh. Maybe the front office thought he is what he is, and so it would be better to experiment with a younger toolsy player like Alford and that other dude they also cut? If so, I get the thought process, but Goodwin is a guy with a decent power-and-speed skillset and still young enough to be productive on an everyday basis.

Yah, I agree that the "didn't fit in with the rebuild" scenario is the answer, Wil, so I guess they'll go with Tom, Evans and a prayer (Difo, I guess, is the 4th guy now) now until Swaggerty is ready. Too bad - w/Polanco out and no OF in the immediate pipeline, they prob could used him now; timing is a beach sometimes lol.
