Pitchers: RHP Trevor Cahill (1-4/6.75) will meet RHP Sonny Gray (0-2/3.92) to close out the set. Trevor started off good, bad, good, bad, and in the last couple of games has normalized to a routine back ender. Cincy was one of the bad games this year; in April, they chased him after four frames with seven runs, keyed by a couple of homers. It shouldn't be that hard to top that performance. Gray had a bumpy start coming off a spring back injury, but in his last two games, he's tossed 12-2/3 IP, giving up two runs on six hits with 19 whiffs. Sonny hasn't met the Bucs this year, and in his career has seven outings (six starts) with a so-so 3-3/4.08 line, though he did handle the Pirates handily last year.
Notes:
- Trevor Cahill's eight strikeouts against the Padres on 4/12 is still the most posted by a Bucco pitcher in one outing this year.
- Adam Frazier leads the National League in hits with 43.
- Most of the Bucco injured aren't real close to returning yet, and Bryan Reynolds is still a little sore. That's why he got today off, although he is available from the bench.
- Amazing But True Trivia: The Pirates are 10-3 when scoring first, 13-4 when outhitting their opponent (they have yet to win a game they've been outhit in) and 13-0 when ahead after six innings (and again, no wins when trailing after six frames).
Tomorrow's Game: The Giants open a four-game stand at 6:35, with the game aired by AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan. Wil Crowe goes against Anthony DeSclafani.
