Bucs-Twins Getaway, Arch v Berrios, Lineup & Notes

Today: First pitch on a getaway day special is at 1:10 and will be aired by AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan.

Pitchers: RHP Chris Archer (4-5, 4.36) ends the shortie series against RHP José Berrios (11-8, 3.51). Arch hasn't been very sharp for the Bucs yet, between being wired in his first outing and feeling the effects of food poisoning in the second, so hopefully he'll be on an even keel today. But all's well that end well, and the Pirates are 2-0 in his starts and he's gotten a whiff per frame. He's seen the Twins twice this year with no decisions (Tampa won both games), giving up four runs (three earned) on nine hits in 11 frames with a dozen K. In five career starts at Target Field, Arch has gone 4-0/1.48. Berrios has been tough after a slow start; in 10 of his 15 outings since mid-May, he's held opponents to two or fewer runs. He's a first rounder with a fastball-change-curve toolkit, and this year, he's improved his control by bounds. This is his first outing against the Pirates.

Lineup: Corey Dickerson DH, Starling Marte CF, Gregory Polanco RF, J-Bell 1B, Fran Cervelli C, Adam Frazier LF, Josh Harrison 2B, Colin Moran 3B & Adeiny Hechavarria SS (Archer P). Cervy is catching after a night game and Freeser, who had three hits last night, is sitting. Jordy hurt his calf; we expected him to be down.

Notes:
  • Buckle up: The Pirates begin a seven-game home stand against two division leaders tomorrow night with the first of four games against the Cubs. The PNC party will also feature Pittsburgh’s first look at the Atlanta Braves & Ron Acuna, who will be in town for three games starting Monday.
  • While much has been made of Cervy's diminished framing skills, he has picked it up in other areas. Last year, he was 11-of-55 (20%) in stolen base toss outs; this year he's 17-of-49 (37%), per Baseball Reference.
  • Hard to believe, but Joe West will be second on the All-Time Games Umpired List with 5,164 contests after today's game, passing Bruce Froemming. Old timer Bill Klem tops the list with 5,369 games arbitrated.
