Pittsburgh-Colorado Round Two, Jamo v Bettis, Lineup & Notes - Hechy Reports, S-Rod to DL

Today: The game begins at 8:40 and is on AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan.

Pitchers: RHP Jameson Taillon (8-8, 3.74) vs. Chad Bettis (5-1, 5.10). Jamo has made 12 straight starts without allowing more than three earned runs, slashing 6-4/3.18 ERA during that span. This will be his first start at Coors Field; he tossed five scoreless innings to beat the Rockies at PNC Park last year. Bettis is returning from a rehab stint after going on the DL with blister issues. This will be the first time he's climbed the hill for the Rox since July 1st. But he's already stopped the Bucs cold this year back in April, going into the eighth and tossing a five-hit shutout, so... BTW, there's also a sidebar story with these two that's pretty cool.

Lineup: Corey Dickerson LF, Starling Marte CF, Gregory Polanco RF, David Freese 1B, Colin Moran 3B, Fran Cervelli C, Josh Harrison 2B, Jordy SS & Taillon P. Taillon, P. The A-Team, as it stands.

Notes:
  • Adeiny Hechavarria reported for the game tonight and will be sporting #15. S-Rod was placed on the 10 day DL (retro to 8/6) with a strain of the left abdomen.
  • The Pirates claimed LHP Buddy Boshers, 30, from the Astros and assigned him to Indy. The reliever had some past MLB service with the Angels and Twins (3-0/4.56 in 75 games) and has worked out of AAA Fresno this year, going 2-1-4/3.18. Chris Bostick was DFA'ed to open up a 40-man spot.
  • J-Bell was running outfield sprints today. He's due off the DL tomorrow and looks like he'll be back in the saddle soon. Josh said he's aiming for a Wednesday return.
  • Right at home: Corey D made his MLB debut with the Rockies in 2013 and spent his first three big league seasons in a Colorado uniform. He's a .359 lifetime hitter at Coors Field with a pretty fair sample size of 400+ at bats.
  • Felipe Vazquez has converted 15 consecutive save chances.
  • Dating back to July 8th, the Pirates pitchers lead the NL with a 3.14 ERA.
  • You might remember the Bucco saga in the spring when they brought in Daniel Nava, Michael Saunders, Bryce Brentz and the gang to audition for Cutch's vacant spot. One guy they passed on was Jayson Werth, who said he called every team but the Mets looking for work in 2018. Of course, Corey D's acquisition made it all academic.
