Willy v Chris Bassitt, Lineup & Notes- Jamo on IL, Pablo Sent Down; Newman, Lyons Join Club

Game: The game starts at 7:05 at PNC Park and will be on Fox Sports 1 & 93.7 The Fan. It's promotional bookends tonight - fans get a Jamo Star Wars bobblehead before the game and Zambelli fireworks (weather permitting) after the clash. Yah, still stuck with rain in the late afternoon/early evening pattern, so bringing an umbrella/poncho may be a wise choice.

Lineup: Adam Frazier 2B, Starling Marte CF, Gregory Polanco RF, Josh Bell 1B, Bryan Reynolds LF, Colin Moran 3B, Fran Cervelli C, Cole Tucker SS, Trevor Williams P. Pretty much the A-team.

Willy 2019 Topps Heritage

Pitchers: RHP Trevor Williams (1-1/3.38) meets RHP Chris Bassitt (1-0/1.75) in the middle match. Willy had his first bumpy ride of the season against LA, but he has gone six innings or more in all six starts and has given up two or fewer runs in four of those games. Trevor has never faced the A's. Bassitt was called up when Marco Estrada went down, and in two starts has gone 12 IP, giving up a run on five hits with 16K. His heater is his go-to pitch; he also has a slider, sinker, and curve. Bassitt has never met the Pirates.

Notes:
  • Didn't see this coming: Jameson Taillon was placed on the 10-day IL with a with a right elbow flexor tendon strain. Lefty Tyler Lyons, the ex-Card signed as a minor league FA this year, was called up. Jamo will miss quite a stretch; the Pirates are shutting him down from throwing for a month. He'll get a second opinion but the first exam showed no damage relating to his TJ surgery. Still, doesn't sound all that good. JT Brubaker is on the IL and Mitch Keller is still rounding into shape, so it appears that Nick Kingham/Steven Brault have the inside track to take his next start or two. Clint hinted he may reveal the rotation sans JT after tonight's game.
  • Also, Kevin Newman was recalled from the IL and Pablo Reyes (.128 BA) was optioned to Indy, so K-Man looks like the next Swiss Army knife off the bench after playing some OF at Indy during rehab.
  • Hopefully Willy focuses a bit on the bottom half of the A's lineup today: the 6-through-9 hitters for Oakland had 10 hits last night; the pitcher even went 2-for-3. Josh Phegley, who had a career night, was the only one of the four hitting above the Mendoza line going into the game.
  • Matt Kemp has been released by the Reds.
