Willy v Eric Lauer, Lineup & Notes

Game: The Bucs hit San Diego for a four-game set at Petco Park, set to kick off at 10:10 EDT. It will be aired by AT&T SportsNet, MLB Network (out of market) and 93.7 The Fan.

Lineup: Adam Frazier 2B, Starling Marte CF, Gregory Polanco RF, Josh Bell 1B, Bryan Reynolds LF, Elias Diaz C, Jake Elmore 3B, Kevin Newman SS, Trevor Williams P. Bryan, Jake and K-Man get starts tonight.

Pitchers: RHP Trevor Williams (2-1/3.40) opens against LHP Eric Lauer (2-4/5.75). Willy just came off a strong outing in St. Louis. He's a San Diego native, and this will be his second start in his hometown. He took on the Friars twice last year, going 0-1 after giving up eight runs in 10-2/3 IP; two homers hurt him. Lauer just got roughed up in his last start, and hasn't gotten through the sixth inning yet this year. Like Willy, he faced his foe twice last year going 0-1; he was rattled for 10 runs (seven earned) on 15 hits in 9-2/3 IP.

Notes:
  • Odd series last year - the Bucs took 2-of-3 at Petco while the Padres won 3-of-4 at PNC.
  • Despite a strong outing by Zack Greinke yesterday, J-Bell (15) and Starling Marte (10) kept their hit streaks intact.
  • Clint is still deciding between starting Steven Brault or going with an opener on Saturday.
  • C Erik Kratz joined the Rays for a PTBNL/cash after the Giants had DFA'ed him.
  • LHP Edwin Jackson started for Toronto yesterday; he set a record by appearing with his 14th MLB team. For the record, he got a no-decision in his start against the Giants, giving up three runs (two earned) in five frames.
