Pitchers: LHP Derek Holland (0-0, 4.76) battles ol' Bucco RHP Ivan Nova (0-0, 4.22). Dutch Oven could have a coupled of wins if the bullpen supported his starts, but... He'll be trying to get through six innings today (and the Bucco pen could use the break); he's been one out shy of that mark in both his previous starts. Bossa Nova has pretty much pitched to his Pittsburgh model this year, with his K and walk rates both deteriorating a little bit.

Notes:

  • Last night, the two teams burned through 16 pitchers and 435 pitches, giving up 30 runs (27 earned) on 32 hits, 10 walks, two errors, a wild pitch, and a hit batter. It took four hours and 33 minutes to play.
  • Randomness: The Tigers sent up 10 batters in an inning twice. It was also the first game that Derek Shelton got ejected from as a manager. Every extra-inning game the Bucs have been in has lasted 11 frames and all three have been losses.
  • Per Joe Block, the last time that the Pirates played an extra-inning game with 30+ runs was on July 23rd, 1930, when the Bucs beat Philly, 16-15, in 13 innings. It was the Bucs' first 30-run game total since 1975.
