Willy on the slab - photo Pittsburgh Pirates |
Pitchers: RHP Trevor Williams (0-2, 5.40) faces South Park HS grad RHP Randy Dobnak (1-1, 1.00). Willy hasn't given the Bucs much length; he hasn't gotten out of the fifth inning yet. This will be the first time he's gone against the Twins. Dobnak is another short-leash guy with nine innings tossed in two outings, but in his two starts he's given up just a run on six hits. This is the 25-year-old's first head-to-head throwdown with the hometown nine.
Notes:
- Erik Gonzalez did the opposite of Colin Moran to improve his stroke - he now puts 80+% of his balls into center or right (the oppo field) and so far has an otherworldly 76.5% hard hit rate. His launch angle has adjusted, too, as virtually everything he hits (65%) is in the air.
- MLB Pipeline has three Pirates Prospects in its Top 100: SS Nick Gonzales is # 41, 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes is # 46, and Oneil Cruz is #72.
- The Cards have joined the Marlins in getting the all clear to play.
