Game: Pittsburgh visits Guaranteed Rate Field for a quickie two-gamer against the White Sox. The game begins at 8:10 and will be on AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan. The two teams last met in 2018, when the Buccos swept a four-game home-and-home matchup.
Lineup: Erik Gonzalez SS, Adam Frazier 2B, Bryan Reynolds LF, Josh Bell 1B, Gregory Polanco DH, JT Riddle 3B, Cole Tucker RF, Jarrod Dyson CF, John Ryan Murphy C and Steve Brault P. Tough to replace Redbeard, K-Man and Phil Evans in the lineup. The taxi squad for this series: young Ps Blake Cederlind, Nick Mears and Cody Ponce, along with C Andrew Susac.

Pitchers: LHP Steven Brault (0-0, 3.00) opens against RHP Lucas Giolito (2-2, 3.89). Steven has been effective as a starter, finally outpacing his piggyback role. He tossed five scoreless, two-hit innings against Cleveland in his last outing, working his way up to 80 pitches, so he's slowly stretching it out. Brault faced the CWS just once, for two innings in 2018, giving up no runs and a hit. Giolito is a high K, high walk guy who has either been pretty good or pretty bad in his six starts this year. He last faced the Bucs in 2018 and was chased after four frames.

- Colin Moran, Kevin Newman and Keone Kela are all available if needed tonight, per Shelty.
- The Pirates claimed RHP Carson Fulmer, 26, off waivers from the Detroit Tigers and DFA'ed OF Guillermo Heredia. Fulmer was the #8 pick overall in the 2015 draft, out of Vanderbilt. He slashed 0-0/6.75 in seven relief outings for Motown and is out of options, so he has to hold a spot on the MLB roster or hit the waiver wire again.
- Trade rumors: Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com writes that Toronto has shown interest in Trevor Williams and Chad Kuhl.
- Pittsburgh is starting a stretch of 15 games scheduled in 13 days, with eight straight on the road and the last seven (one designated as an away makeup) at PNC Park.
