Pitchers: RHP Chad Kuhl (1-3, 5.03) end the home season against Alec Mills (5-4, 4.14). Chad had been putting together a pretty good year until KC ripped him up; he bounced back against the Cards. Though he was charged with four runs, three were unearned and he held the Redbirds to five hits in five innings with six whiffs and dispelled notions that he was destined for the pen. He hasn't done much against Chicago in two efforts, giving up five runs (four earned) in 5-1/3 IP; Cool hopes the third time is the charm. The 24-year-old Mills has been up-and-down; he lost his only outing v Pittsburgh, 6-4, giving up four runs in five frames.

Notes:

  • Ric Rod has tossed 11 straight scoreless outings since August 30th and is four-of-five in save opps.
  • The Pittsburgh BBWAA 2020 honors: Clemente Award (team MVP) - Jake Stallings; Blass Award (Pirates best pitcher) - Steven Brault; Tanner Award (media good guy) - Stallings again. Who had that pair in July?
  • After today's match, the Pirates conclude the campaign with three games against the Indians at Cleveland.
