Jared gets the start - 2019 Bowman First |
Pitchers: LHP Steven Brault (1-3, 4.04) takes on LHP Jose Quintana (0-0, 6.00). Steven is coming off his best outing - and maybe the best Pirates pitching performance of the year - with a complete game, one run (unearned), two-hit win over the Cards with eight K. Brault's ERA as a starter is 3.03, although his last trip to the hill was the first time this year he's gone past five innings. He's worked against the Cubs once, tossing three no-hit, shutout innings with four whiffs in early August. Quintana is coming off the IL (three weeks w/inflamed lat), and this is his first start of the year. He should be on a pretty tight pitch count. Q hasn't faced Pittsburgh this season, but was 4-1 in six starts against them in 2019, albeit with a 4.19 ERA.
Notes:
- Reports from the Dominican Republic say that Pirates SS prospect Oneil Cruz was involved in a traffic accident that claimed three lives, though he's not hurt. He was driving a Jeep that collided with a motorcycle per the stories. The Pirates have been in contact with Cruz and will issue an update when more info is available. 2020 can't end soon enough for the Pirates...
- The Cubs have won six-of-seven from the Pirates. The Bucs have lost 13-of-14.
- Pittsburgh has scored 13 runs in the past six games and have an OPS+ of 69 for the season.
