Steven Brault v Dakota Hudson, Lineup & Notes

Game: The Bucs come home to begin a four-day, five-game set against the Cards. The first pitch is at 7:05 and will be on MLB Network (out of market), AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan.

Lineup: Adam Frazier LF, Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B, Colin Moran DH, Josh Bell 1B, Erik Gonzalez SS, Bryan Reynolds CF, Gregory Polanco RF, Kevin Newman 2B, Jake Stallings C and Steven Brault P. Gonzo is in the five-hole with Fraze at leadoff.

Pitchers: LHP Steven Brault (0-3, 5.06) opens the set against RHP Dakota Hudson (3-2, 2.92). Steven's in a funk; he's 0-3, 6.75 in his past four games with a 6.75 ERA, with 10 walks in 14-2/3 IP. Not only do the free passes jam him up, but he hasn't gone longer than five innings this year, and he reached that bar just once. Brault hasn't faced the Cards yet this year. Hudson is heading the other direction; he's 3-1/2.20 in his past half dozen games. He's only given up more than three runs once this campaign; that was in his only outing of the year against Pittsburgh on July 26th, a 5-1 Bucco win.

Notes:

  • Two streaks going on - J-Bell has hit in 10 straight and the Bucs have dropped eight in a row.
  • The Pirates don't expect RHP Keone Kela, a free agent at the end of the year, to pitch again this season. RHP Jameson Taillon, recovering from TJ surgery, is trying to talk management into an outing this year. The team is unlikely to give him that opportunity, but it is a good sign that his recovery is going well.
