Pitchers: RHP Mitch Keller (1-1, 5.06) goes against Kwang Hyun Kim (2-0, 0.63). Mitch gave up a couple of homers in three innings during his last visit to the hill, but felt no ill effects from his oblique injury. Kell's win came against the Cards in July, when he went five frames, giving up a run on two hits. We'll see how much of a leash he's on; he was yanked after 65 pitches last time out, and that only carried him through three innings as he walked four.   Kim started the season a little late; he had an offseason kidney issue that was addressed, requiring him to go on blood thinners. It doesn't seem to bother him very much; he hasn't given up more than a run in any of his six outings and in his last few starts has been averaging six innings, generally working around an 85-pitch count. Kim hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last four starts, a span stretching 24 innings, and no runs at all over his last 14 frames. The KBL vet worked three weeks ago against Pittsburgh and gave up an unearned run on three hits in six frames of work.

Notes:

  • Pittsburgh has lost 10-of-11 games.
  • The Pirates first pick, 2B Nick Gonzales (they converted him from SS) is expected to go to Bradenton to continue instructional league-type development after the Altoona camp breaks up this weekend.
